The desktop category covers two related device types.
Traditional plug-in desktop vaporizers are powered from a mains outlet and heat dry herb in a chamber. They use larger chambers and dedicated fans, and support delivery methods like balloons and whips. The Volcano Classic and Volcano Hybrid from Storz & Bickel, together with the Arizer XQ2 and Extreme Q, are traditional plug-in desktops.
Tabletop electronic dab rigs use battery power rather than a mains connection. We group the Puffco Peak and Peak Pro 3DXL with desktop vaporizers because their water-filled glass design gives them a tabletop format distinct from smaller portable concentrate vaporizers. Both remain battery-powered and portable.
Desktop vaporizers use several methods to get vapour to the user.
Balloon bags fill with vapour from the device and then detach. Once filled, the balloon can be used at your own pace or passed between users. The Volcano Classic, Volcano Hybrid, Arizer XQ2 and Extreme Q support balloon delivery.
Whips are silicone tubes that let you draw directly from the vaporizer without filling a balloon first. The Arizer XQ2 and Extreme Q support whip use, while the Volcano Hybrid includes a tube option alongside balloon delivery.
Water filtration is used by the Puffco Peak Pro 3DXL and Peak. Vapour passes through a water-filled glass attachment before reaching the mouthpiece, which cools and smooths the draw. This is standard on tabletop e-rigs rather than dry herb desktops.

Delivery method. If you want a detachable balloon that can be used away from the device or passed between users, compare the Volcano and Arizer models that support balloon delivery. If you prefer drawing directly through a whip, the Arizer XQ2 and Extreme Q both support this method, while the Volcano Hybrid includes a tube option. Budget. The Extreme Q sits at the accessible end. The XQ2 and Peak sit in the middle. The Volcano Classic, Volcano Hybrid and Peak Pro 3DXL are at the premium end.
Storz & Bickel is the German manufacturer behind the Volcano range. The Volcano Classic uses a manual temperature dial, while the Volcano Hybrid uses digital temperature controls and adds tube delivery and Bluetooth app support alongside the balloon system.
Arizer is a Canadian vaporizer manufacturer. The XQ2 uses an all-glass vapour path and supports balloon, whip and aromatherapy modes. The Extreme Q remains available and supported, and includes a remote control for adjusting temperature and fan speed.
Puffco makes the tabletop e-rigs in the category. The Peak Pro 3DXL includes Bluetooth app support. The Peak provides a simpler setup without the Peak Pro 3DXL’s app connectivity. Both use water filtration.
