Shop vape pens in the UK from DynaVap, Arizer, Puffco and XMax. Our range includes compact dry herb vape pens, battery-free vaporizers and concentrate pens designed for easy everyday carry.

Vape pens sit at the slimmer end of the portable vaporizer market. They include pen, tube and stem-style devices that are easy to hold and carry, while still covering very different heating systems and materials.

Some vape pens are electronic, while others use no battery at all. They can also be designed for dry herb or concentrates, so choosing the right type starts with what you want to vape and how you prefer to heat it.

What Is a Vape Pen?

A vape pen is a slim, handheld vaporizer designed around a compact pen, tube or stem-style format. Vape pens fall within the wider portable vaporizer category, although their narrower shape makes them particularly easy to carry.

The term describes the general format rather than one specific type of technology. A vape pen may use a rechargeable electronic heating system or an external heat source. It may also be designed for dry herb, concentrates or, in some cases, more than one material.

This means an Arizer Air Max, XMax V4 Pro, DynaVap M7 and Puffco Pivot can all reasonably be described as vape pens even though they work in very different ways.

If you want to compare these slimmer devices with larger handheld models, visit our complete Portable Vaporizers category.

Dry Herb and Concentrate Vape Pens

The most important distinction between vape pens is the material they are designed to heat.

Dry Herb Vape Pens

Dry herb vape pens heat ground botanical material inside a chamber without burning it. They range from electronic models with built-in temperature control to manually heated devices with no battery or electronics.

Arizer, XMax and DynaVap all offer different approaches to this format. Arizer uses electronic heating with removable glass stems, XMax combines a slim electronic design with greater control over temperature and heating modes, while DynaVap uses an externally heated cap instead of a battery.

Concentrate and Dab Pens

Concentrate vape pens, often called dab pens or wax pens, use a chamber designed specifically for concentrates. They give concentrate users a smaller alternative to a larger e-rig.

The Puffco Pivot covers this side of our vape pen range, combining an electronic heating system and dedicated concentrate chamber in a compact handheld format.

For larger concentrate devices and e-rigs, see our full Concentrate Vaporizers range.

What About 510 Vape Pens?

The term vape pen is sometimes also used for slim 510 cartridge batteries. However, we keep standard 510 devices separate from this category so it is easier to distinguish cartridge batteries from vaporizers with their own dry herb or concentrate chamber.

If you use pre-filled cartridges, browse our dedicated 510 Vape Batteries range instead.

Electronic and Battery-Free Vape Pens

Vape pens do not all create heat in the same way. One of the biggest choices is between an electronic vaporizer and a manually heated device.

Electronic vape pens use a battery to power the heating system. Depending on the model, controls can range from simple preset temperatures to precise digital adjustment and different heating modes.

Electronic dry herb options include the Arizer Air SE, Air Max and XMax V4 Pro, while the Puffco Pivot brings electronic heating to concentrate use.

Battery-free vape pens take a completely different approach. DynaVap vaporizers have no rechargeable electronics. Instead, the cap is heated with a butane torch or induction heater until it clicks to indicate that it has reached its operating temperature.

Electronic heating is convenient and repeatable, while battery-free heating removes charging from the routine and gives the user a more hands-on session. Neither approach is automatically better.

How to Choose a Vape Pen

Start with the material you use. Once you know whether you need a dry herb or concentrate device, a few other features can quickly narrow the choice.

Size and Portability

Compact size is one of the main reasons to choose a vape pen. However, there is still a noticeable difference between a slim DynaVap stem and a larger electronic model such as an Air Max.

Think about whether you want the smallest possible device or whether you are happy with a slightly larger body in return for an electronic heater, battery and additional controls.

Heating and Temperature Control

Some vape pens are designed around simple operation, while others give you much more control over the session.

Electronic models may use preset heat levels or precise temperature adjustment. Manual devices such as DynaVap give you control through how and where you apply the external heat.

Battery Setup

If you choose an electronic vape pen, consider whether the battery is built in or removable. A removable battery allows you to carry a charged spare and replace the cell when it eventually reaches the end of its useful life.

If you would rather avoid batteries completely, DynaVap provides a mechanical alternative.

Vapour Path and Cooling

A slim device has less space between the heating chamber and mouthpiece, so vapour-path design can make a noticeable difference.

Arizer uses removable glass stems in its Air range, while other vape pens use dedicated mouthpieces, internal air paths or chamber designs to manage vapour temperature and airflow.

Cleaning and Replacement Parts

Compact vaporizers benefit from regular cleaning because residue and loose material can build up in smaller chambers and vapour paths.

It is worth considering how easily the chamber, mouthpiece and air path can be cleaned, as well as whether replacement parts are readily available.

Vape Pen Brands

The brands in our vape pen range take very different approaches to compact vaping.

DynaVap specialises in slim battery-free dry herb vaporizers. Models such as the M7, M7 XL, B2 and G3 use a temperature-responsive cap and an external torch or induction heater instead of an internal battery.

Arizer offers electronic dry herb vape pens including the Air SE and Air Max. Both use removable glass stems, while the larger Air Max adds more battery capacity and control for users who do not mind a slightly bigger device.

Puffco covers concentrate vaping with the Pivot. It puts a dedicated concentrate chamber and electronic temperature control into a compact pen-style format.

XMax offers the XMax V4 Pro, a slim electronic vaporizer with convection heating, precise temperature adjustment, Session and On-Demand modes and a removable battery.

Which Vape Pen Should You Choose?

For straightforward electronic dry herb vaping: the Arizer Air SE provides a simple entry into the Air range with a removable glass stem and electronic heating.

For a larger electronic dry herb vape pen: the Air Max adds more battery capacity and control while retaining Arizer’s glass-stem design.

For more temperature and heating control: the XMax V4 Pro is worth considering if you want precise adjustment, different heating modes and a removable battery.

For battery-free dry herb vaping: DynaVap offers several slim mechanical options heated with a torch or induction heater.

For concentrates: the Puffco Pivot provides a dedicated electronic dab-pen format without moving up to the size of a larger e-rig.

For 510 cartridges: use our separate 510 Vape Batteries category rather than this range.

Vape Pen FAQs

What is a vape pen?

A vape pen is a slim handheld vaporizer built around a pen, tube or stem-style format. It can be designed for dry herb or concentrates and may use either rechargeable electronic heating or an external heat source.

Is a vape pen the same as a portable vaporizer?

A vape pen is a type of portable vaporizer. Portable vaporizer is the broader term and also covers larger handheld devices with bigger chambers, batteries and cooling systems. A device can therefore be both a vape pen and a portable vaporizer.

Can vape pens be used for dry herb?

Yes. Vape pens such as models from Arizer, XMax and DynaVap are designed for dry herb. Always check the individual device because concentrate and cartridge vape pens use different heating systems.

What is the difference between a dab pen and a vape pen?

A dab pen is a vape pen designed specifically for concentrates such as wax. Vape pen is the broader term and can also describe compact dry herb vaporizers. The Puffco Pivot is an example of a concentrate or dab pen.

Are 510 batteries vape pens?

Slim 510 cartridge batteries are often described as vape pens because of their shape. However, we list them separately from this vape pen category so customers looking for pre-filled cartridge devices can find them more easily.
